JUNIOR STRINGS ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR

Sara Given is a 2009 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received her Master’s Degree in String Music Education with an emphasis in String Pedagogy.  During her time at Ohio State, Sara assisted in rehearsing and conducting the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra's Chamber Strings under the direction of Dr. Robert Gillespie. 

Before moving to Columbus, Sara taught elementary, middle, and high school orchestra in the Centerville City Schools.  As co-director of the Centerville High School Chamber Music Program, she was responsible for conducting the chamber orchestra and coordinating performances throughout the community. 

Sara received her Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education from Ohio University, where she served as assistant conductor of the Athens Youth Orchestra.  She also taught private and group violin lessons through the Athens Community Music School.  A driving force behind the reinstatement of the Ohio University chapter of the American String Teacher's Association, Sara served as the new chapter’s first president. 

Sara currently teaches middle school orchestra with New Albany Plain Local Schools.  She also maintains a private studio of violin and viola students and performs in local orchestras.
